Is there a soul, and if so, where should it be in our body? Man, whose vital functions depend on nourishment and blood circulation, is a material product of vegetative Mother Nature. We have a beginning time, a heyday and a decaying time, and finally the end.

Can the "soul" be explained? The soul can perhaps be explained by the interaction of atoms and molecules and the resulting forces.

But science tells us that there is no soul. Science explains everything to us, sometimes hypothetically. As a result, we don't need a pastor, no religion, no morality, but we need the law of the strongest, which means that we open all the doors to the animal people. What are we to do with trifles such as morality, custom, self-confidence, striving, if there is no reason whatsoever?

Man is ennobled by the awareness of his noble descent, the knowledge on which our life is built.

So what is the soul? "The concept of the soul has a long history. Already in the Middle Ages it was much discussed. On the one hand the soul was considered to be the link between mind and body, on the other hand it was more ascribed to spirit, cognitive insight, rationality and the connection to God. In According to this idea, the soul decoupled from the body after death, was associated with eternal life. Around the 16th century, however, the soul became more associated with feelings, emotions and passions. Even today, the term " soul" many different definitions and perspectives," says Prof. Dr. dr Georg Northoff, neuroscientist, philosopher and psychiatrist. He is a professor of neuroethics at the chair set up especially for him.

What is new, however, is the insight into the brain, which we have only had for 20 or 30 years. Science now seems to say: everything is brain. However, what we do not yet know exactly is how neuronal activities are translated into mental activities, i.e. into subjective experience.

Even today we often assume that the mental states of people are something very special. They are a completely normal result of the spatial-temporal interaction between brain, body, environment and their fluctuation or waves. Brain waves or mental states are probably a result of evolution. Ultimately, however, this is a question of faith. Because science cannot provide empirical evidence for this - this is where natural science reaches its limits. It can only provide indications that mental states are connected to neuronal processes and spatial-temporal states.
